Three regular-season games were played in the NHL, North America's top professional ice hockey league, with the Boston Bruins, Colorado Avalanche and Calgary Flames all winning.

Boston 3, Vegas 2 (shootout)

The Boston Bruins beat the Vegas Golden Knights 3-2 in a shootout at home, claiming their sixth straight home win. James Hagens and Morgan Geekie, who scored on the power play, put the hosts 2-0 up. Mark Stone pulled one back on the power play in the second period, and Trevor Connelly levelled the score eight minutes into the third.

In the shootout, Jeremy Swayman stopped attempts by Connelly, Jack Eichel and Mitch Marner, while David Pastrnak scored the only successful shot in the third round. Swayman made 21 saves in the game and Carter Hart stopped 25 for Vegas. After winning eight of their first ten games of the season, the Golden Knights have lost five of their last six.

Chicago 2, Colorado 5

The Colorado Avalanche came back from 0-2 down to beat the Chicago Blackhawks 5-2 on the road, their third consecutive win. Wyatt Kaiser and Roman Kantserov gave Chicago a two-goal lead in the first period, but Nazem Kadri and Jaden Schwartz scored within 26 seconds to level the game. In the second period Kadri scored on the power play, and Schwartz made it 4-2 in the closing seconds of the period.

Kadri and Schwartz each scored twice, and Devon Toews added an empty-net goal. Mackenzie Blackwood made 21 saves. It was Chicago's sixth loss in seven games, and Patrick Kane left the game in the second period with an upper-body injury.

San Jose 1, Calgary 2

The Calgary Flames won 2-1 away against the San Jose Sharks. Both goals came from fourth-line wingers: Adam Klapka opened the scoring in the 15th minute of the first period, and William Stromgren scored his first goal of the season midway through the third. Sam Dickinson cut the deficit to one eight minutes before the end of regulation, but San Jose could not equalise. Calgary's record improved to 7-8-0, while San Jose's fell to 7-8-1.
