NHL: Florida's Matthew Tkachuk Fined for Roughing in Game Against Ottawa
The NHL Department of Player Safety has fined Florida Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk $5,000 for roughing in a game against the Ottawa Senators. Ottawa forward Nick Cousins was fined as well.

The National Hockey League has fined Florida Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk $5,000 for roughing. The incident took place during a game in the Canadian capital, Ottawa, where the Panthers visited the Senators. Ottawa won at home 5-1. Latvian players Sandis Vilmanis and Uvis Balinskis play for the Florida side.
The game was played in a heated atmosphere. Matthew's younger brother Brady Tkachuk had been captain of the Senators, but in the summer he arranged a move to Florida, where his older brother plays. The decision left Ottawa supporters unhappy. Brady scored the first goal of the game for Florida.
What happened on the ice
At the start of the third period, Brady got into a scuffle with his former teammate Dylan Cozens. Matthew Tkachuk then got involved from the side. He was fined $5,000 for roughing Cozens. The NHL Department of Player Safety said this is the maximum amount allowed under the collective bargaining agreement between the league and the Players' Association.
Fine for an Ottawa player
Ottawa forward Nick Cousins also received a fine. He must pay $4,091.49 for unsportsmanlike conduct towards an opponent while on Ottawa's bench. This is likewise the maximum allowed under the agreement.
