French President Emmanuel Macron traveled to Nice on Tuesday to take part in a quiet ceremony honoring the victims of the July 14, 2016 terror attack. The attack, which took place on the city's iconic Promenade des Anglais, remains one of the darkest moments in modern French history.

Ten years ago, on France's national holiday, a heavy truck plowed into a crowd, killing 86 people and injuring over 400. Since then, the city has held annual commemorations, but the 10th anniversary holds special significance.

During the ceremony, Macron laid flowers and met with victims' families, expressing condolences and reaffirming the state's support. The event was kept low-key and respectful, as requested by many of the bereaved.

Nice's mayor and other officials also attended, noting that the trauma is still fresh. The city, famous for its beaches and resorts, still bears the scars of that day, with locals referring to it as an open wound.

The attack prompted widespread security changes across France and Europe, and its remembrance serves as a reminder of the ongoing fight against terrorism.
