Nintendo Switch eShop Gets Long-Awaited Dark Mode and Performance Boost
A new Nintendo Switch update finally brings dark mode to the eShop and transforms it into a native app, making browsing significantly faster and more responsive.

Nintendo has released a software update for the Switch that brings a highly requested feature to the eShop: dark mode support. Users can now enable dark mode in the store as long as their system theme is set to dark.
More significantly, Nintendo has overhauled the eShop experience. Browsing games is now much faster and more responsive. According to Vooks (via Kotaku), the Switch eShop has been converted from a web-based application to a native app, which dramatically improves performance. While the eShop remains slightly faster on the Switch 2 due to its superior hardware, this update makes a world of difference for original Switch owners. It's a shame it took Nintendo nearly a decade to achieve this, but it's a welcome improvement.
The update also includes other useful changes. Users can now lock the eShop with a PIN and protect saved payment methods with a PIN as well. Additionally, in the eShop and News app, users can skip forward or backward through full-screen videos by 10 seconds using the ZL and ZR buttons.
