NMPD Achieves Good Response Times, But Hospital Waiting Still Hinders Work
The Emergency Medical Service (NMPD) responds to about 1,000 calls per day, mostly in Riga and its surroundings. While response times have improved, delays at hospitals and hospitalization capacity remain key issues.

The Latvian Emergency Medical Service (NMPD) receives approximately 1,000 calls daily, the majority of which come from Riga and Pieriga, according to NMPD representative Cipule.
She stated that the service is working hard on improving response times and has submitted proposals to the Ministry of Health to modify requirements. Cipule noted that NMPD has achieved good response times to patients, but certain issues still affect emergency response.
One major problem is the waiting time at hospitals, which needs to be reduced. The number of calls also poses a challenge. Cipule acknowledged that public understanding of when to call NMPD has improved.
She emphasized the need for serious discussions about hospitalization options and the hospital network, so that future changes do not negatively impact emergency response.
