A bus carrying 12 children was caught in the blast wave of a Russian double-tap strike on Odesa Oblast on the afternoon of 9 August, Ukraine's Ministry of Internal Affairs reported. A double-tap strike refers to Russian forces hitting the same area twice within a short period.
According to the ministry, the children avoided serious harm — only one suffered minor scratches. No further details were given on exactly how the bus was affected.
Overnight missile strike still being assessed
Separately, authorities in Odesa are still assessing the damage from a Russian missile strike carried out overnight between 8 and 9 August. Residential buildings, a hotel, and both civilian and energy infrastructure sustained damage in that attack.
The Odesa Oblast Military Administration's latest count puts the number of people injured in the overnight strike at 12. The full scope of the damage and casualties is still being confirmed.
