Who Was Egons Spuris
Egons Spuris (1931–1990) was an outstanding Latvian photographer whose works are included in the Latvian Culture Canon. He led the photo club “Ogre” for many years. The symposium was launched in 2008 by his photographer friends Andrejs Grants, Inta Ruka and Vitauts Mihalovskis, together with curator Irēna Bužinska. They wanted to remember not only his artistic achievements but also his human values.
This Year’s Programme
This year’s speakers include Latvian photographers Māra Brašmane and Haralds Vecvagars, as well as Tadas Kazakevičius from Lithuania. Dace Voitkeviča will talk about Vitauts Mihalovskis (1946–2020), one of the symposium’s founders. Anita Trušele will present the digital repository “See, Hear Latvia!” of the National Archives of Latvia, which marks its 10th anniversary this year.
Venue
The symposium is held at Ogre Central Library, which has won several awards and, according to the source, is the largest public wooden building in the Baltics. The library also hosts exhibitions by the photo club “Ogre”. The events are supported by the Ogre Municipality.
