Ogre Residents Name the Most Important Teacher in Their Lives
Local news site OgreNet asked four people in the Ogre area who has been the most important teacher in their lives. Their answers range from school teachers to life experience itself.
The Ogre-area news site OgreNet put a question to local people in its «Residents Answer» column: who has been the most important teacher in their lives? Four people replied, two schoolgirls and two adult women who live in or are visiting Ogre and Kalnāji.
A lesson from the workplace
Kete, a logistics specialist from Kalnāji, recalled her first job at the age of 17. A woman who worked at the company as a dishwasher told her a saying: those with a good heart end up with an empty wallet (in the original, a rhyming and blunter phrase). Kete thought it nonsense at the time, but over the years she has come to understand better that not everyone needs to be helped.
Teachers at school
Katrīna, a schoolgirl from Kalnāji, named the English teacher from her previous school as the most important. According to her, the teacher was kind but able to maintain discipline, and made it clear that nobody would walk all over her. She stayed calm, and one could always talk things through with her.
Jeļizaveta, who studies in Ogre, chose her social studies teacher. She says the teacher helped her cope with all kinds of difficulties, taught her a great deal and supported her more than anyone else. She also enjoyed the subject itself.
The past as a teacher
Sanija, an editor visiting Ogre, believes her greatest teacher is everything that has happened to her, in other words, the past. By remembering mistakes she has made, she tries to avoid repeating them and to make tomorrow better than yesterday.
