OhSnap's new magnetic phone grip finally wins over a longtime skeptic
A Verge review describes OhSnap's new $50 Snap Grip Stand, a magnetic phone grip with a built-in fold-out stand, as good enough that the reviewer bought one for himself after months of testing. The device is thin, holds phones securely, and is often available at a discount.
Tech outlet The Verge has published a review of OhSnap's newest magnetic phone accessory, the $50 Snap Grip Stand, describing it as the first product from the company that fully won the reviewer over.
The reviewer notes he had previously found OhSnap's earlier grips appealing but overpriced and flawed, sticking instead with a cheaper $25 alternative from another brand. After testing the new Snap Grip Stand for months, however, he ended up buying one himself, paying $40 after a discount at Best Buy.
The accessory is just 3.7mm thick, allowing it to sit in a pocket without adding noticeable bulk. Like its predecessor, it features a double-sided magnetic ring that lets it attach not only to a magnetic phone case but also to flat metal surfaces such as a fridge or gym equipment, while still allowing wireless charging to pass through. The grip portion uses interlocking joints that can be worn loosely between fingers or more securely with a finger through the joint, and the whole disc rotates freely to any angle.
The key upgrade is a built-in stand: a thin fold-out ring on a hinged arm that props the phone upright almost instantly, without needing to remove or rotate the grip first. A similarly designed but cheaper $17 rival stand exists, though the reviewer found its elastic strap felt less secure. He also praised the new model's bare anodized metal finish, noting earlier OhSnap versions suffered from peeling coatings or unwanted adhesive.
As possible improvements, the reviewer suggested a lower price, magnets placed in the stand ring itself so both features could be used simultaneously, and an easier one-handed way to open the grip.
