A drone attack reached the Russian city of Omsk, located more than 2,500 kilometres from the Ukrainian border, on Saturday, 24 October. Widespread fires broke out in the city afterwards. The attack comes during the Russia–Ukraine war, and if Ukrainian involvement is confirmed, it would be another strike on Russian industrial infrastructure far from the front line.
What is confirmed

Possible strike on the plant
Ukrainian media report a possible strike on the strategically important Omsky Kauchuk petrochemical plant. The Ukrainian outlet Dialog.ua, citing local residents, writes that the Omsk synthetic rubber plant may have been damaged. The company is one of the most significant petrochemical facilities in the Omsk region. It produces various types of synthetic rubber, which can also be used to make components of rocket fuel. Damage to the plant has not yet been confirmed.
Eyewitness accounts
Videos shared on social media show the glow of a powerful fire and thick clouds of smoke. Local residents describe hearing several explosions. In one video, an eyewitness says another drone arrived, two impacts were heard, and the plant is burning very intensely.
