OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, has announced plans to open a new office in the Spanish capital Madrid as part of its strategy to expand in Europe and deepen ties with local companies, developers, and institutions. The office is set to become operational later this year.

According to local reports, ChatGPT's weekly active users in Spain have increased by more than 40% year-on-year, placing the country among the top five European markets by weekly active users. OpenAI believes Spain has established itself as one of the most dynamic technology and artificial intelligence ecosystems in Europe, with a growing number of companies integrating AI tools into their operations and services.

The new hub will enable OpenAI to work more closely with Spanish companies, public administrations, research centres, and developers that use its AI models. The company has already followed a similar approach in other European countries, opening offices to drive technology adoption and strengthen its regional presence.

Founded in 2015 and globally recognized for launching ChatGPT, OpenAI has accelerated its international expansion in recent years. The company already has offices in cities such as London, Paris, Brussels, and Munich as part of a strategy to consolidate its footprint across Europe.
