Ornithologists Call for Logging Ban During Bird Nesting Season
Several Estonian environmental organizations propose a nationwide logging ban from April 15 to July 15 to protect nesting birds, but the Ministry of Climate considers the measure unjustified.

Several nature conservation organizations in Estonia have submitted an appeal to the Ministry of Climate calling for uniform logging restrictions across the country. The proposal suggests banning logging from April 15 to July 15 to better safeguard nesting birds.
The organizations emphasize that such a measure would reduce disturbances during the breeding season when many bird species are particularly vulnerable to human activity. Currently, logging restrictions vary by region, and conservationists seek a consistent national approach.
However, the Ministry of Climate has responded that the proposed measure is not justified. Ministry officials stated that existing regulations already provide sufficient protection for birds, and a complete three-month logging ban would be too stringent, causing economic losses in the forestry sector.
The debate continues, with ornithologists hoping the ministry will reconsider its stance given declining bird populations.
