Thunderstorms Expected in Parts of Latvia on Tuesday

Early Tuesday morning, Latvia is cloudy with some clearing and brief rain in places. Broader precipitation from the west is reaching Kurzeme. Fog is present in some areas. Winds are light and air quality is good. At 5 a.m., temperatures ranged from +8.2°C in Kolka to +13.9°C in Pāvilosta, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre. In Riga, shortly after sunrise, it was cloudy with a light west-southwest wind and a temperature of +12°C.

On Tuesday, most of Latvia will experience intermittent rain, locally heavy with thunder, forecasters say. Winds will mostly be light from the west and southwest, but in Dienvidkurzeme afternoon gusts from the west-northwest could reach 14-18 m/s. Sun will be more frequent in Vidzeme and Latgale. Maximum temperatures will be +14 to +19°C. In Riga, occasional rain with possible thunder showers, light southwest wind, and a high near +17°C.

The weather is influenced by a low-pressure area with atmospheric pressure at 1000-1003 hPa at sea level. On Monday, the maximum temperature in Latvia ranged from +15.3°C in Dagda to +18.8°C in Ventspils. Europe's highest temperature on June 15 was +37°C in Spain, France, Italy, and Greece, while the overnight low into Tuesday was -3°C in the mountains of Central Europe.
