Two drivers on the Estonian island of Hiiumaa have been hit with heavy fines for speeding – 142 km/h and 150 km/h respectively – in their rush to catch the departing ferry from Heltermaa port. The police stopped both drivers and issued fines, the Lääne Prefecture reported on social media.

"Rushing for the ferry may seem like innocent time-saving, but it is actually a conscious risk for yourself and other road users. A few saved minutes are not worth a possible accident, injuries, or even worse consequences," the police reminded.

"Therefore, it is important to plan your trip in advance and leave enough time so that the fear of being late does not make you push the gas pedal harder. In traffic, it is important not to arrive a few minutes earlier, but to arrive safely. No ferry is worth your life," the officers added.
