No World Cup Games Today – FIFA Explains the Break
There are no World Cup matches today as FIFA has scheduled rest days to allow teams to recover, considering the expanded tournament, long travel distances, and summer heat.

Why No Games Today?
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is taking a break today. Only eight teams remain in the tournament, with seven matches left to determine the champion, including the third-place playoff. FIFA explains that the rest days are necessary to give teams enough time to recover between games. This is especially important after the tournament expanded to 48 teams, as finalists will play up to eight matches. Additionally, players face long trips between the USA, Canada, and Mexico, as well as summer heat.
Remaining Schedule
Quarterfinals will begin on Thursday and run through Sunday. Then Monday, July 13, will be another rest day. Semifinals are scheduled for July 14 and 15. Before the final, two more rest days are planned on July 16 and 17, giving finalists extra preparation time. The third-place match will take place on July 18, and the final will be held on July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, where the 2026 World Cup champion will be crowned.
After the Tournament
After the World Cup, the football season will quickly return to normal. European club qualifiers will begin, and top national leagues will resume in August. Major League Soccer (MLS) in the US will also restart its season in mid-July.
