New Leadership and Mission

The World Latvian Art Center (WLAC) in Cēsis is a unique institution – the only one in the world dedicated to the art and legacy of the Latvian diaspora. It preserves the works of exiled Latvian artists and fosters connections between the diaspora and Latvia. This year, the center welcomed a new director, Zīle Liepiņa, who previously lived in Canada. Her international experience and fresh perspective are expected to bring new energy to the center's activities.

The radio program "Global Latvian. 21st Century" recently visited Cēsis to learn about Liepiņa's plans and how the center can help understand the cultural heritage of diaspora Latvians. The discussion highlighted that WLAC is not just an art repository but also an educational and research hub where Latvians worldwide can explore their roots.

Future Prospects

Zīle Liepiņa emphasizes that one of the main goals is to increase the center's international visibility and attract new visitors. Although specific projects are still being developed, it is clear that the center will continue to strengthen collaboration with diaspora artists and organize exhibitions that reflect the diversity of Latvian art beyond Latvia's borders.

The World Latvian Art Center is more than a museum – it is a place where past and future, art and identity meet. With the new director at the helm, the center aims to become an even more significant bridge between Latvia and its scattered children around the world.
