TVNET conducted an experiment to find out if homemade Midsummer cheese (Jāņu siers) is cheaper and tastier than store-bought versions. The production costs were calculated and compared with prices of caraway cheese in various physical and online stores.
The test debunked the myth that making cheese requires raw farm milk or an open fire. According to the authors, the cheese can be prepared using an electric stove in a city apartment, and pasteurized milk works fine.
The specific cost comparison and taste test results will be published separately.
