Pope Leo XIV confirms Latin America trip after recovering from surgery
The Vatican says Pope Leo XIV will visit Uruguay, Argentina and Peru from 6 to 17 November as planned. Doctors found his recovery from recent surgery to be favourable.

Pope Leo XIV, head of the Roman Catholic Church, will travel to Uruguay, Argentina and Peru from 6 to 17 November, as originally planned. The Press Office of the Holy See, the central governing body of the Catholic Church based in the Vatican, officially confirmed the visit after doctors verified that the pontiff's condition was improving following his recent operation.
According to the Vatican statement, the procedure went ahead without complications. Follow-up tests confirmed that the illness was contained, so he needs no additional oncological treatment.
Recovery
Two weeks have passed since the operation, and the latest medical check-ups show a favourable recovery, with no contraindications to travel. Since returning to the Vatican, Leo XIV has gradually resumed his duties, although he follows a schedule adapted to medical recommendations and sets aside time to rest. Dr Luigi Carbone, who is responsible for reporting on the pope's condition, has confirmed that he is in good health.
Visit to Latin America
The pope has expressed his joy at returning to Latin America, a region with which he has a close personal bond. "It fills me with happiness to return to the continent where I have lived so many moments of my life," he said. During the visit, Leo XIV intends to strengthen ties with Catholic communities and convey a message of faith, hope and peace.
