Pegula and Świątek advance to Cincinnati quarterfinals
American Jessica Pegula and Poland's Iga Świątek both won their third-round matches to reach the Cincinnati WTA quarterfinals, where they will face top-tier opponents.

American Jessica Pegula and Polish world number five Iga Świątek both secured their spots in the quarterfinals of the Cincinnati WTA tournament with third-round victories.
Pegula (#3) fought through a tight three-set match to beat Romania's Sorana Cîrstea (#19) 6:2, 4:6, 7:5. Bookmakers had favored the 32-year-old American before the match, offering odds of 1.29 on her win. Pegula outperformed her opponent in first-serve percentage, total points won, and break points converted (7 of 14 compared to 5 of 10). Her head-to-head record against Cîrstea now stands at 3-1. This marks Pegula's eighth appearance at the Cincinnati tournament, where her best result remains a runner-up finish in 2024. In the quarterfinals, she will face fellow American Amanda Anisimova (#10), who defeated Czech player Linda Nosková (#8) 6:1, 6:4 earlier the same night.
Świątek (#5), meanwhile, cruised past France's Diane Parry (#66), a player who once reached as high as 47th in the world rankings, winning 6:2, 6:3. Bookmakers made the 25-year-old Pole a heavy favorite, setting odds at 1.03 for her victory. Świątek dominated across first- and second-serve points won, total points, and break points converted (5 of 10). Her career head-to-head record against Parry now reads 2-0. This is Świątek's seventh year competing in Cincinnati, where she claimed the title in 2025. She also recently won the Toronto WTA 1000 tournament. Her quarterfinal opponent will be Kazakhstan's top-ranked player, Elena Rybakina (#2).
Also through to the quarterfinals is American number two Coco Gauff (#4), who will face Ukraine's Marta Kostyuk (#11).
