This year, Pärnu was officially awarded the title of Estonia's summer capital for the 31st time. The handover ceremony was held at a symbolic location – the beach building, famous for its unique mushroom-shaped balcony.

Representatives from Türi, the spring capital, brought the ceremonial staff on a luxurious red cabriolet, which was then handed over to Pärnu's mayor Kristel Voltenberg by members of the Tallinn delegation. During the ceremony, the summer capital flag was raised, and compositions by Raimond Valgre were played.

The title of summer capital was first bestowed upon Pärnu in 1996. Since then, it has become an annual tradition that marks the beginning of the summer season in Estonia.
