Citizenship and Migration Board Halts Case Against Latvian Guard Nikita Obozny; He Keeps Citizenship

The Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs (PMLP) has decided to close the initiated case regarding the revocation of Latvian citizenship from Nikita Obozny, a member of the Latvian National Guard (Zemessardze) who was born in Latvia and grew up in local orphanages. The case was originally opened on the assumption that Obozny also held Ukrainian citizenship, which would constitute dual citizenship—prohibited under Latvian law. However, further investigation revealed that Ukrainian citizenship was never properly granted to Obozny. Consequently, he was never a dual citizen, and there are no legal grounds to strip him of his Latvian nationality. The PMLP has therefore terminated the proceedings, and Obozny retains his Latvian citizenship.
