Kelsey Pfendler, a Grand Canyon river-rafting guide, has made history as the first American woman to row solo across the Pacific Ocean from California to Hawaii. According to data from the Ocean Rowing Society International, Pfendler completed the journey of more than 2,300 miles in her rowboat named Lily in just under 44 days. She started from the California coast and finished in the Hawaiian Islands. This achievement marks a milestone, as no American woman had previously accomplished a solo transoceanic row. Pfendler, who works as a guide on the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon, is an experienced rower. Her crossing was verified by the Ocean Rowing Society International, which tracks and records such expeditions.
