First Meniscus Transplant in Latvia Performed Using Donor from German Tissue Bank
For the first time in Latvia, a meniscus transplant has been successfully performed using a graft from a German tissue bank; the procedure is rare but considered the best option for younger patients.

The Hospital of Traumatology and Orthopedics has carried out the first meniscus transplant in Latvia. The graft was obtained from a tissue bank in Germany, and the surgery was completed successfully. Hospital experts note that such transplants are not common and are performed only when medically indicated. However, for younger patients, like the man who underwent the procedure, donor meniscus transplantation is the preferred treatment as it helps preserve joint function and prevent future complications. This operation marks a significant advancement in Latvian traumatology and orthopedics, expanding the range of available treatment options.
