Plan to Rebuild A7 Section to Lithuanian Border as Expressway
The section of Latvia's A7 road from the end of the Bauska bypass to the Lithuanian border is planned to be rebuilt as a four-lane expressway. An initial public consultation will run from 23 October to 13 November.

A section of Latvia's A7 state road (Riga–Bauska–Lithuanian border, Grenctāle) running from the end of the Bauska bypass to the Latvian-Lithuanian border is planned to be rebuilt as an expressway with four traffic lanes. The proposal comes from the state company Latvijas Valsts ceļi (Latvian State Roads), and an initial public consultation on it will be held from 23 October to 13 November.
What the plan involves
The road currently has two lanes on this stretch. Over about 14.3 kilometres, it is to be converted into an expressway with two carriageways. The section begins at the end of the Bauska bypass, roughly four kilometres from the Bauska town limits in the direction of Lithuania, and extends to the state border. It crosses Cerauksts and Brunava parishes in Bauska municipality. The section lies between kilometres 71.8 and 86.1 of the A7.
On 12 January 2026, the State Environmental Service, which oversees compliance with environmental requirements, decided that an environmental impact assessment procedure should be applied to the project. The consultation materials include a description of the planned activity, a list of affected land parcels, plans of two route alternatives under evaluation, and the Service's decision.
Meeting and materials
The public consultation meeting will take place on 3 November at 18:00 in the Cerauksts community hall, and people will also be able to join remotely. The connection link will be posted a day before the meeting in the "Aktualitātes" section of the website environment.lv, run by the company Estonian, Latvian & Lithuanian Environment.
From 23 October, the materials can be viewed during working hours at the Bauska municipality Customer Service Centre at Uzvaras iela 6, Bauska, and at the Cerauksts community hall. They will also be available at lvceli.lv and environment.lv.
How to submit proposals
Written proposals may be submitted up to and including 13 November to the State Environmental Service at Rūpniecības iela 23, Riga, LV-1045, or sent to the Service's e-mail address. The information line is 67084200. The proposals will be used in preparing the environmental impact assessment programme.
