PlayStation Store to Remove Studio Canal Movies in Europe Due to Licensing Expiry

Sony has warned customers in several European countries that Studio Canal movies purchased on the PlayStation Store will be removed from their libraries on September 1 due to the end of a licensing deal, highlighting the lack of true ownership for digital content.

Starting September 1, users in the UK, France, Italy, and Spain will lose access to hundreds of Studio Canal films they bought on the PlayStation Store, as Sony’s licensing agreement with the studio expires. The company sent notices to affected customers, stating the movies will be deleted from their video libraries. No refunds are mentioned. This situation mirrors a previous case in which Sony planned to remove Discovery shows but later renewed the license. The event underscores that purchasing digital content does not grant permanent ownership.
