Deadly floods hit eastern Spain after torrential rain
Torrential rain has caused severe flooding in eastern Spain, killing at least four people. Rescue teams carried out more than 400 operations in the Valencia region.

Heavy downpours on Spain's Mediterranean coast triggered severe flooding in the east of the country on Monday, 19 October. At least four people have died, and emergency crews in the Valencia region have carried out more than 400 rescues. The floods matter because they inundated roads and put residents in several communities at risk.
The water carried away parked cars and covered roads. Some residents were left stranded, and rescuers airlifted a number of people to safety.
Deaths in Oliva
Oliva was among the hardest-hit areas. Two people died there, including a 79-year-old woman who was found in her home.
Restrictions on residents
Authorities told people in around 100 municipalities to stay indoors for several hours while heavy rain battered the coast. As conditions improved, most of the restrictions were lifted by early Monday afternoon.
