Police Seek Prosecution of Man for Cruel Dog Killing in Preiļi Municipality
The State Police have completed an investigation and sent a criminal case to the prosecutor's office against a man born in 1964 who cruelly killed a dog in Galēni Parish, Preiļi Municipality, last June.

On the evening of June 26 last year, police received a report from a resident about a pool of blood in the stairwell of a house in Galēni Parish, Preiļi Municipality. Arriving at the scene, officers found that a man born in 1964 had treated a dog cruelly—hitting it on the head with an object and kicking its body multiple times, resulting in the animal's death. The man then took the dog's carcass to an abandoned house and left it there.
At the time of the incident, the man was heavily intoxicated. A criminal case was initiated under Article 230, Paragraph 2 of the Criminal Law, which covers cruel treatment of an animal resulting in its death. The penalty includes up to five years' imprisonment, short-term imprisonment, probation supervision, or a ban on keeping animals for up to five years.
On July 6 this year, the police concluded the investigation and sent the case to the prosecutor's office for prosecution. The State Police reminds that no person is considered guilty until their guilt is proven in accordance with the law.
