Two women detained in Poznan over attack on Ukrainians
Police in the Polish city of Poznan have detained two women after they behaved aggressively toward Ukrainian nationals outside a restaurant. The suspects, believed to be intoxicated, were identified with the help of social media footage.
On 14 August, police in Poznan, Poland, detained two women following an incident involving Ukrainian citizens outside a restaurant. The arrest was reported by European Pravda, citing a post by Polish Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński on X.
The women appeared in a video widely shared on social media, in which they shout at Ukrainians, spit, throw a street umbrella at them and hit them. According to police, the incident took place shortly after midnight on 13 August, and the women were likely under the influence of alcohol. Officers noted that the video documentation was crucial in identifying the suspects.
The arrest comes amid a sharp rise in attacks on Ukrainians in Poland in recent weeks. On 8 August, a 39-year-old man who had aggressively insulted two Ukrainian nationals in Kraków surrendered at a police station and was detained. Days earlier, a man in Gdańsk attacked a Ukrainian passer-by and two Polish citizens, calling them "Banderites." In Wrocław, a group of Polish men recently attacked a young Ukrainian couple, reportedly after hearing their accent. Those suspects were placed in custody for three months.
