Latvian PM Kulbergs: Ukraine must win, not just hold the front
During a working visit to Paris, Latvian Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs stressed that European support for Ukraine must aim for victory, not merely stabilizing the front line. He called for stronger NATO presence in the Baltics and tougher sanctions against Russia.

Latvian Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs (AS) has emphasized that Europe must increase support for Ukraine while strengthening NATO's eastern flank. Speaking after a working visit to Paris, where he attended a meeting of the Good Will Coalition focused on Ukraine and European security, Kulbergs argued that merely helping Ukraine hold the front line is insufficient. "Our common goal must be Ukraine's victory," he stated, calling for full military, political, and economic support, as well as strict enforcement of sanctions against Russia without exceptions.
During the Paris meeting, leaders discussed urgent needs for Ukraine, particularly air defense. Kulbergs also held bilateral talks. With French President Emmanuel Macron, he discussed European security, sanctions policy, and strengthening allied military presence in the Baltics. Kulbergs called on France to increase its military presence in Latvia, and Macron expressed willingness to advance this issue.
Kulbergs also spoke with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, agreeing to organize a bilateral visit between Latvia and Germany soon to bolster cooperation in economy, investment, and security. Additionally, discussions with the prime ministers of Malta and Albania focused on sharing experiences in attracting investment and economic development.
Kulbergs underscored that Latvia must strengthen its role in European security and maintain unwavering support for Ukraine. "Only a unified, decisive, and cooperative Europe can ensure long-term security and prosperity for its people," he said.
