During a meeting with the Interior Minister, Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs stressed that public trust in internal security services is essential, as they are the first responders in crisis situations. He noted that firefighters, rescuers, police officers, and border guards daily strengthen national security through their professional work and dedication. The President emphasized that human resources are needed to bolster these services.

The discussions also covered improvements to the civil defense system, including construction of shelters, modernization and expansion of warning sirens, particularly in the eastern border regions. Additionally, they addressed advancements in cell broadcast algorithms, the website, and the "112.lv" application.

Rinkēvičs called on the Interior Minister to actively cooperate with municipal leaders to foster a unified understanding of civil defense commission tasks and municipal responsibilities. He also urged the ministry to engage in close dialogue with critical infrastructure operators to plan security measures.
