"Project Rally One" reveals first test images of new WRC27 car
Independent Belgian project "Project Rally One" has released the first photos of its camouflaged WRC27 prototype after a three-day test that covered about 300 kilometers. The team now aims to enter two cars at the 2027 Monte Carlo Rally.
The independent Belgian outfit "Project Rally One" has published the first images of its new WRC27-class prototype following on-track testing. According to project leader Lionel Hansen, the car completed roughly 300 kilometers over three days of testing without any major technical issues.
Development driver behind the wheel
Behind the wheel during the test was Stephane Lefebvre, who serves as the project's official development driver and is actively involved in the car's ongoing refinement.
Technical package
The prototype is powered by a Volkswagen Group 1.6-liter turbo engine, carried over from existing Rally2 cars. Despite the shared engine, the entire further development program is being run independently by the Project Rally One team itself.
Ahead of schedule
The project is currently running about a month ahead of its original timeline. Further tests on asphalt are planned for September, while the team intends to move on to gravel testing in October.
The team's ambitions have also grown: instead of one car, Project Rally One now aims to field two cars at the start of the 2027 Monte Carlo Rally. News of the test was also shared by the rally news account SplitTime Rally on social media, which described it as a significant milestone for the independent project and another visible sign of the approaching WRC27 era.
