Santa Laimiņa-Rubene, a clinical and medical psychologist, head of a helpline for gambling addicts and their relatives, and board member of the association "Skalbes", discussed the illusions of gambling on Latvijas Radio's program "Vai tas ir normāli?".

According to her, for some people lotteries and gambling are a small entertainment and a dream of a big win, while for others they represent a risk of losing control over money and emotions. However, everyone is united by hope, excitement, and balancing on the edge between entertainment and addiction.

As the program's title indicates, one of the most dangerous illusions is the belief that playing long enough guarantees a win. The psychologist emphasizes that this mindset can lead to serious financial and emotional consequences.

Laimiņa-Rubene urges people to recognize the risks of gambling and seek help if they experience difficulties controlling their play. The association "Skalbes" provides support in such situations.
