The Consumer Rights Protection Center (PTAC) has highlighted that social media content increasingly shapes consumer choices, from everyday purchases to lifestyle decisions. Influencer recommendations are often perceived as personal and authentic, making it crucial for consumers to understand when content is commercial.

To assess how clearly commercial information and the use of artificial intelligence are disclosed, PTAC took part in the annual sweep by the International Consumer Protection and Enforcement Network (ICPEN). The sweep ran from March 23 to April 8 and involved 21 enforcement authorities worldwide.

The global review examined 228 influencers. Results showed that 92% posted commercial content, but only one in five consistently labeled it as such. Furthermore, disclaimers were often not prominent enough – the average consumer could easily miss them. PTAC noted that while no major violations were found, there is still a need for greater clarity and visibility in the labeling of commercial content.
