Russian President Vladimir Putin on 28 October publicly described US entrepreneur Elon Musk, the founder of the space company SpaceX, as a “genius.” Putin claimed that Russia is in “close contact” with Musk.
The remark was made while Putin was visiting an exhibition held as part of the Russia–Africa summit. The source gives no details on how or on what matters Russia has been in contact with Musk, and it does not say whether Musk has commented on the statement.
Putin's words about communicating with one of the world's best-known businessmen and the head of a private space company have drawn attention, but without further information from either side the nature of this contact remains unclear.
