Putin orders Russian forces to strike Ukraine's energy infrastructure
Russian President Vladimir Putin said he has ordered the military to prepare and carry out massive strikes on Ukraine's energy facilities. The statement came after Ukraine targeted Russia's fuel and energy complex with drones.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said on September 1 that he had ordered Russian troops to launch massive strikes against Ukraine's energy sector. He spoke at a press conference following the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Bishkek, Russian media reported.
Putin complained that Ukraine continues to attack Russia's fuel and energy complex, claiming that a large number of drones heading for Moscow and St Petersburg were shot down overnight.
The Kremlin leader said the strikes on Russian territory would not go unanswered. According to Russian media, he stated that Russian armed forces had been ordered to prepare and conduct massive strikes on Ukrainian energy facilities, warning: “They are hitting ours — they will get a response.”
The remarks came after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in an address on September 1 that Russian airspace was becoming completely dangerous and warned all airlines using it accordingly.
On August 30, Russia's Defense Ministry announced it was preparing massive shelling of Ukraine's energy infrastructure.
