A Camera-Equipped Bird Feeder

During Prime Day, the BirdBuddy Pro with Solar Panels has become an unexpected hit. This bird feeder features a built-in camera and a solar roof, and is currently discounted from $299 to $168. While some might argue it's essentially a video doorbell and solar panel attached to a feeder – something that could be DIY-assembled for under $100 – its appeal lies in specialized features.

Features and Subscription

The BirdBuddy takes 5-megapixel photos and identifies bird species through an app, which also provides interesting facts. The solar roof helps keep the battery charged even in cloudy weather. However, bird recognition and naming features require a subscription.

Upcoming Models and Competition

BirdBuddy has announced new models: the BirdBuddy 2 with a rotating camera and wider field of view for $199, and the BirdBuddy 2 Mini without solar panels for $129. The BirdBuddy 2 was briefly available for pre-order but is no longer listed on the official website. The smart bird feeder market is becoming crowded, with alternatives like the Coolfly Aura at similar prices, but BirdBuddy offers a more polished experience.
