Ineta Radeviča, the renowned Latvian track and field athlete, was officially inducted into the University of Nebraska Sports Hall of Fame on Thursday. She is one of seven honorees in this year's class.
While studying at the University of Nebraska, Radeviča won the NCAA championship in triple jump in 2003. Joining her in the hall of fame are baseball player Matt Hopper, bowler Cassandra Leuthold, softball player Taylor Edwards, American football player Dean Steinkuhler, volleyball player Amber Holmkvist, and volleyball coach John Cook.
Radeviča holds a special place in Latvian athletics history. In 2011, she became the world vice-champion in long jump, securing the first medal for independent Latvia at the World Championships. She also holds the Latvian record in long jump, set in 2010 when she won the European Championships in Barcelona with a leap of 6.92 meters.
Her competitive career ended after the 2012 London Olympics, where she finished fourth, missing the bronze medal by just one centimeter. After retiring, Radeviča served as president of the Latvian Athletics Union from 2017 to 2018, but resigned following a positive doping test from her London Olympic samples.
