Latvia's Registered Unemployment Rate Falls to 4.5% at End of September
According to the State Employment Agency, registered unemployment in Latvia stood at 4.5% of the economically active population at the end of September 2026, down 0.1 percentage points from a month earlier. Latgale still has the highest rate and the Riga region the lowest.

The registered unemployment rate in Latvia fell to 4.5% of the economically active population at the end of September 2026. That is 0.1 percentage points lower than at the end of August, according to data published by the State Employment Agency (NVA). The indicator reflects the share of people officially registered with the agency as unemployed.
Number of jobseekers
At the end of September, 40,049 unemployed people were registered with the agency. A month earlier the figure was 41,497, meaning the number dropped by 1,448 people.
Regional differences
The lowest registered unemployment rate remained in the Riga region at 3.6%. Compared with August, it declined by 0.2 percentage points. The highest rate stayed in Latgale, at 9.2%, unchanged from the previous month.
In Vidzeme, the rate fell by 0.2 percentage points in September to 3.9%. Kurzeme saw an equal decline of 0.2 percentage points, ending the month at 4.3%. In Zemgale the rate decreased by 0.1 percentage point to 4.4%.
Comparison with the end of last year
At the end of 2025, the registered unemployment rate in the country was 5% of the economically active population. The September figure is 0.5 percentage points lower.
