According to company representatives, the Vapiano restaurant in the Origo shopping center has ceased operations. Its final working day was Wednesday, July 15. As it was the only Vapiano outlet in Latvia, the chain has now withdrawn entirely from the country.
The company did not disclose how many employees would lose their jobs due to the closure. In a social media post, the restaurant announced that it was their last day and invited customers for a final visit.
Earlier this year, in February, Vapiano also ended operations in Lithuania, where it had two restaurants in Vilnius. Marena Uibo, the manager of Piano Ozas, the Lithuanian operator, previously stated that the company would not file for bankruptcy but would exit the market while fulfilling all legal obligations. All employees were to be laid off.
The Vapiano franchise in the Baltics and Finland is managed by MM Grupp, a holding company controlled by Estonian businessman Margus Linnamäe. Estonia currently has five Vapiano restaurants, and Finland has two. Globally, there are over 170 Vapiano restaurants in more than 30 countries.
