The State Police have initiated an administrative proceeding following the discovery of TikTok videos depicting tractor races in Rēzekne district. According to law enforcement, the footage revealed that the lives and health of both participants and bystanders were endangered during the event.

Because public events require coordination with local authorities, police have requested explanations from the Rēzekne district municipality. Municipal representatives confirmed that the event had been approved based on the organizers' submitted plan and the territory's zoning, but stressed that they assume no responsibility for the actual conduct of the event.

Prior to the races, an online meeting was held involving the municipality, police, and organizers. At that time, no objections or questions regarding potential incidents were raised. The municipality noted that under current legislation, it lacks legal instruments to deny an event if the organizer has submitted all required documents.

The organizers, who run a local recreation area, stated they have received no official complaints or warnings from either police or attendees. They do not see any violations in their actions, pointing out that volunteers were hired to maintain order and that loudspeaker announcements repeatedly urged people not to cross safety barriers. In their view, any risks stemmed from the reckless behavior of some visitors, which they could not fully control.

Despite the ongoing administrative process, the organizers plan to continue the tradition next year, pledging to further improve safety measures. The final decision in the administrative case will be made by the State Police after receiving all necessary explanations and reviewing the materials. For violating public event regulations, individuals may face a warning or a fine of up to 400 euros, while legal entities may be fined up to 3,200 euros.
