Director Ivars Zviedris: Grieving Is Something a Person Can Train, Like Much Else
Documentary filmmaker Ivars Zviedris spoke on Latvian Radio about his conversations with psychotherapist Artūrs Utināns for the film "Sērošanas ceļvedis" (A Guide to Grieving). He also discussed how documentary cinema extends beyond the moments when a camera is switched on and off.

Documentary director Ivars Zviedris spoke on the Latvian Radio programme "Laikmeta krustpunktā" about his film "Sērošanas ceļvedis" (A Guide to Grieving) and his conversations with psychotherapist Artūrs Utināns. Zviedris is the author of the documentaries "Dokumentālists", "Līdz nāve mūs šķirs" and "Kaprači".
According to him, he and Utināns held several conversations, and these may appear in the film in some form. From all of them, one idea stayed with the director: when it comes to grieving, a person can train for almost anything.
What else was discussed
Zviedris explained why documentary cinema does not begin and end with switching a camera on and off. The programme also touched on how his relationship with Inta of the bog developed over the years.
The conversation covered the obstacles that a person who observes events must overcome today. Zviedris also talked about what the heroes of his films have taught the director himself.
The programme "Laikmeta krustpunktā" is broadcast on Latvian Radio.
