RFS secures convincing win over Grobiņa in Latvian top flight

RFS defeated Grobiņa 3-1 away on Saturday, strengthening their lead at the top of the Latvian Premier League table.

In the 17th round of the Latvian Premier League, RFS claimed a 3-1 (2-0) victory over Grobiņa on Saturday. Goals for the visitors came from Modou Sady, Mārtiņš Ķigurs, and Roberts Veips, while Artjoms Puzirevskis scored the only goal for the home side.

The match started with RFS taking control. In the 22nd minute, Gautier Mankenda set up Sady, who shot from close range to make it 1-0. Nine minutes later, Ķigurs doubled the lead after a pass from Mora Tall. Early in the second half, Grobiņa had a chance to reduce the deficit when a penalty was awarded for a foul by Stefan Paničs on Maksims Sidorovs. However, RFS goalkeeper Jevgeņijs Nerugals saved Roands Baravīks' spot kick.

RFS continued to dominate and in the 80th minute, Veips made it 3-0 following an assist from Sady. Just a minute later, Puzirevskis headed in from a cross, making the final score 3-1.

Other Saturday matches saw Riga beat debutants Ogre United 4-1 away, while Auda will face Jelgava at home. On Friday, Liepāja defeated Super Nova 3-1, and Tukums 2000 drew 1-1 with Daugavpils.

In the standings, RFS leads with 46 points from 17 games, followed by Riga (42), Auda (34 points from 16 matches), and Liepāja (25). Grobiņa sits ninth with 13 points, while Ogre United is last with 4. The season comprises 36 rounds, with the final round scheduled for November 8.
