RFS beats Grobiņa away to extend lead over champions Riga
RFS secured a 3-1 victory over Grobiņa in the 17th round of the Tonybet Latvian Football Premier League on Saturday, widening their gap at the top of the table over Riga.

RFS claimed a dominant 3-1 away win against Grobiņa on Saturday, strengthening their position in the league standings. In the 22nd minute, Modu Said scored from close range after a swift counter-attack, putting the visitors ahead 1-0. Nine minutes later, Mārtiņš Ķigurs doubled the lead with a goal assisted by Mora Tallā.
Early in the second half, RFS defender Stefans Paničs fouled Maksims Sidorovs in the penalty area, giving Grobiņa a penalty kick. However, RFS goalkeeper Jevgeņijs Nerugals saved Roanda Baravīks' spot-kick in the 50th minute, preserving the two-goal advantage.
In the 80th minute, Roberts Veips made it 3-0 with a goal from Said's pass, but Grobiņa's Artjoms Puzirevskis pulled one back a minute later, heading in a cross from Oļģerds Raščevskis to make it 1-3.
Earlier, Riga crushed debutants Ogre United 4-1 away, with Ogre playing their first match at their new stadium. Later Saturday, third-placed Auda will host Jelgava.
On Friday, Liepāja beat Super Nova 3-1 at home, while Tukums 2000 and Daugavpils drew 1-1.
After 17 matches, RFS leads with 46 points, followed by Riga (42), Auda (34 from 16 games), Liepāja (25), Super Nova (20), Daugavpils (19), Jelgava (15), Tukums 2000 (14), Grobiņa (13), and Ogre United (4). The season is scheduled to conclude on 8 November.
