Riga Municipal Police officers used a drone on the evening of 15 October to find a mushroom picker who had become lost in a forest. The officers were assisting the State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD), which carries out rescue operations in Latvia. The information comes from Riga Municipal Police.
Phone battery had died
The woman had got lost in a forest area between Trīsciems, Vecāķi and Vecdaugava, in the north of Riga. The situation was made harder by the fact that the battery of her mobile phone had run out, so it was not possible to contact her.
Search with a thermal camera
On arrival at the scene, municipal police officers began surveying the forest with a drone equipped with a thermal camera. During the search, they managed to determine the coordinates of the woman's location.
She was then taken by quad bike to a safe place outside the forest. There she was met by VUGD staff, medics from the Emergency Medical Service (NMPD) and State Police officers, who took over further work at the scene.
