European Zaporozhets gathering takes place in Riga
Today, the European Zaporozhets (ZAZ) gathering is held at the Riga Motor Museum and Bikernieki track, with approximately 100 crews from seven countries participating.

The European Zaporozhets (ZAZ) gathering, popularly known as "zapinji", is taking place today at the Riga Motor Museum and Bikernieki track, event organizers informed LETA. Around 100 ZAZ and LUAZ crews from Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Poland, Ukraine, Hungary, and Germany are participating.
Zaporozhets cars were once produced in Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine, and were among the most common small-class cars in the Soviet Union. The gathering features models "ZAZ 965", "ZAZ 966", "ZAZ 968", "ZAZ 968A", "ZAZ 968M", and "ZAZ 968MP", as well as LUAZ off-road vehicles.
The farthest journey to the gathering is made by a crew from Aachen, Germany, who must travel nearly 2000 kilometers one way. During the event, participants compete in several races, while visitors can view the vehicles and learn about their history.
The event is organized by the informal association "ZAZ Klubs" in cooperation with the Riga Motor Museum and the Latvian Antique Automobile Club.
