Residents of Riga and Pieriga have the opportunity to dispose of obsolete electrical equipment free of charge from June 16 to 30 during the environmental campaign "What’s unsafe, don’t keep!". The campaign is organized by AS "AJ Power Recycling" in cooperation with SIA "3R" and the insurance company "Balta".

E-waste can be dropped off on weekdays from 9:00 to 18:00 at the SIA "3R" waste sorting yard at 4 Atlasa Street in Riga. All types of electrical equipment are accepted, from small devices such as mobile phones, chargers, and cables to large household appliances including refrigerators, stoves, and microwave ovens.

Experts particularly warn about devices older than 15 years, as they may contain toxic substances and their wires are often worn, increasing the risk of short circuits and fires. Devices with lithium-ion batteries, such as e-scooters, mobile phones, tablets, and power banks, are also hazardous, as they can ignite if improperly stored or disposed of.

Uldis Skrebs, board member of AJ Power Recycling, emphasizes that unused electrical devices should not be stored at home for long periods, especially if they are worn or equipped with lithium-ion batteries. They should be taken to designated collection points in a timely manner to prevent safety and environmental risks.

Old electrical equipment must not be thrown in household waste, as it contains environmentally harmful substances that can cause pollution. At the same time, these devices contain valuable resources that can be recovered through recycling. In everyday life, unwanted electronics can be taken to separate waste collection points throughout Latvia.
