Ice is making driving difficult on main state roads around Riga this morning. State-owned company Latvijas Valsts ceļi urges drivers to take care and allow for the weather.

Icy conditions are making driving harder on several main state roads around Riga, Latvia's capital, this morning. The information was provided to the LETA news agency by Latvijas Valsts ceļi (Latvian State Roads), the state-owned company responsible for maintaining the country's state roads. It is relevant for motorists travelling to or from the capital region.
Where conditions are most difficult
Driving is made difficult on the Vidzeme highway (A2) between Vangaži and Sigulda, and on the Vamiera highway (A3) between Murjāņi and Ragana. On regional roads, difficult conditions are reported around Riga.
What road crews are doing
Slippery road sections are being treated with anti-skid materials. Three units of winter maintenance vehicles have been deployed to improve driving conditions.
Advice to drivers
The company asks drivers to take the weather into account when planning trips and to allow extra travel time. It recommends choosing a speed that suits the condition of the road surface and keeping a safe distance from the vehicle ahead.
