Riga Digital Agency Director Gulbis Resigns After Disciplinary Case Over Electricity Use
Riga Digital Agency Director Janis Gulbis will leave his post after a disciplinary case was initiated against him for using municipal electricity to charge his personal car. He paid a fine of 170 euros and submitted a resignation.

Janis Gulbis, director of the Riga Digital Agency, has been subjected to a disciplinary case for using municipal electricity to charge his personal electric vehicle. Following the initiation of the case, he decided to step down, with his dismissal scheduled for June 19.
Gulbis admitted the violation and paid the imposed fine of 170 euros. He submitted a resignation letter, stating that he no longer wishes to continue working in such an environment. Earlier, opposition representatives had urged the municipality to dismiss him and refer the matter to the Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau.
In his defense, Gulbis argued that his and the agency's work had not been properly evaluated. He cited achievements such as attracting European Union funding, openness initiatives, and efforts to make procurement more transparent, aiming to challenge the widely discussed "iceberg" of information technology procurement. "This is not the outcome I hoped for," said Gulbis.
