Riga council official explains what to do at polling stations during an air threat alert

On the TV24 program "Ziņu TOP. Rīga runā," the head of Riga City Council's Civil Protection Department, Pēteris Grūbe, explained how residents should act if an air threat alert were declared while they were at a polling station during elections.
Grūbe pointed out that most polling stations are located in educational institutions, which already have response plans developed for such emergency situations.
Cell broadcast alerts as the main information source
The civil protection official stressed that during a crisis, residents should primarily follow cell broadcast alert messages, which will clearly state what action is required in each specific situation.
Grūbe reminded the public that a yellow-level alert does not by itself mean people need to seek shelter immediately. In such cases, the key is to remain alert, stay informed about developments, and be ready to act as the situation evolves.
Orange alert brings specific instructions
In the case of an orange-level alert, however, residents will receive concrete instructions on what to do. Grūbe explained that polling stations will also have designated safe areas where people can take shelter if necessary, and this information will be known in advance.
