Riga Music Week organiser: Latvia's music sector needs its own international focus
Agnese Cimuška-Rekke, an organiser of the international music forum Riga Music Week, says Latvia's music sector needs a dedicated spotlight at least once a year. On LSM's programme "Kultūrdeva" she also discusses industry development and a minimum share of Latvian music on radio.

Latvia's music sector needs its own international focus at least once a year, according to Agnese Cimuška-Rekke, one of the organisers of the international music forum Riga Music Week. She spoke on "Kultūrdeva", a culture programme of Latvian public media (LSM).
Cimuška-Rekke says that for a very long time it seemed that Tallinn Music Week, held in Estonia, was enough for the Baltic region. However, the longer she has worked in the music industry, the clearer it has become to her that Latvian music needs similar attention.
Topics covered in the conversation
On the programme, the organiser discusses questions around the development of the music industry. The conversation also turns to setting a minimum share of Latvian music on radio stations, meaning how much of the music broadcast should be reserved for Latvian performers.
The discussion is framed around the question of how the rest of the world hears Latvian music.
